WANGANELLA'S 'MURDOCH' ENDS SEARCH FOR GENANEGIE

A trip to the Riverina for the FSF Ram Sale in September 2009 yielded results for Stephen Swain, after a long time search for an outcross for his Genanegie Stud at Peak Hill was finally satisfied at the original Peppin Stud by a Wanganella March Shorn Reserve Ram.

Keen to find a Merino ". . . compatible with my own sheep. . .", Stephen had first seen Wanganella 8.004 ('Murdoch') at the Dubbo National Sheep Show, where 'Murdoch' was awarded the Reserve Champion Medium Wool March Shorn ribbon, and had been initially impressed by the general presence of the ram. Commenting that 'Murdoch' had ". . . wool of great quality with a lot of finish", the 18.8 micron ram with an SD of 3.1, CV of 16.5 and comfort factor of 99.6 weighed in at 119 kg for the FSF Stud Open Day and Ram Auction where he was included as part of the Stud’s lineup of display sheep.

Convinced that 'Murdoch' with his stylish wool and deep body is ". . . a modern sheep that the industry is looking for" and well matched to the existing qualities of the Genanegie sheep, Stephen was able to persuade the FSF Stud Management to part with their Reserve Ram for $10,000, in addition to securing another Wanganella sire from the FSF auction lineup.
